Granular tutorial with PDF part 01

Have you had a poke at the granular instrument yet? I hope so, because we're going to crack it open and do some renovations. Download the zip file containing the modified instrument and an instructional PDF here.

Part 2 will be coming next week. UPDATE: well that was a long week. :-/

Update: Since people are telling me they're having trouble with Sharebee, try this out and tell me what you think:

Hi, looks like a very useful tutorial but the version you've posted here has the mods for osc connectivity in it and (possibly) because of this doesn't do anything on its own. Can you repost the original somewhere please?

I'm going to put on my mind reading hat and guess that you're talking about the grainsynth that was featured in a Future Music video. That topic keeps popping up on music forums lately. This isn't a mod of that.

However, I understand what you're talking about - you want something that constantly produces sound without midi input, right? I will be addressing that in one of the upcoming tutorials in this series. Stay tuned.

Hey there!
wow i feel like i've just found a diamond on its full shining!
I was exactly looking for a bloody killa granulizer like that one!
Downloaded the zip, but when I try to load the ensemble, it says
"error while reading file, this file was saved with a newer version of Reaktor!"
Im currently using Reaktor 5.
For as far as i know, reaktor 6 havent been released, what you think is the problem?
Thank u very much!

Farbo, I'm using version 5.12. You probably have an earlier point release like 5.10. You can download updates here.

Hey there! thanks for the advice.
The problem was that I couldnt get the update =(
Do you think it would be possible for you to post the instrument file alone? without the ensemble, so I can load it with no problems?
I know i'm asking too much, you are already very kind on delivering it with such a great pdf =)
or is there any link where I can get the instrument alone?
Thank u very much!
cheers

Hello,sir!
I am using Reaktor5.
how can I acquire data from a snapshot in the form of a table? I have to do-for school- an experiment: I will build an ensemble and each student will have his own snapshot depending on the modifications he made to the knobs. What I want to do is gather the numbers shown below each knob in a table and then raise a graphic representation of the data. For example, student x ,knob1-500Hz,knob2-1Volt . I want to know if generating this kind of table is possible using Reaktor or does someone have to stay with pen and paper near the student and note his data.
Thank you!

Hi, i knowd that site going around the net, it is in my "preferite" list, it's what i was searching for, i want to tnx you ;D.

Peter Dines said...

turbotibi, it's possible to do that with an event table.

I've done things like this before and it takes some work and debugging to get the right values to go into the right table positions. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any documentation for the .ssf snapshot file format, so this is what we're stuck with.

If it's worth it to you, send me the ensemble and I'll give you an estimate on time and expense. I'm fairly cheap and easy. :-)

Reaktor definitly needs more tutorials so big thanks for doing this Peter. =)

A suggestion for a tutorial would be a small midi controller ensamble.
One that generates notes and CC messages for external synths or other vsti´s.

I love this stuff - it makes me take another look at Reaktor (i ditched it for max because i couldn't figure stuff out because of the state of the documentation), so big thanks. the sequencer tutorial was useful too.

btw - the link to the download is much better than using sharebee, i think.

cheers.
